Introduction:Fibroindex is a simple non invasive indirect marker of liver fibrosis, derived from the platelet count ,AST,and gammaglobulin measurements.Aim of this study:To evaluate fibroindex as a non invasive marker in diagnosis of chronic hepatitis C and to correlate its serum level with stage of fibrosis assessed by histopathological staging of liver biopsy and virological characteristics including HCV RNA titers.Patients and methods :Study included 40 patients with chronic hepatitis C (35 male and 5 female),divided from F1 to F4 ,patients with no advanced fibrosis F1-F2considered as control.Fibroindex equation was =1.738-0.064(platelets{x104/mm3}+0.005(AST{IU/L})+0.463(gammaglobulin{g/dl}).Results There was no significant correlation between fibroindex and liver biopsy. Conclusion: Fibroindex had low specificity and positive predictive value, also sensitivity was not sufficient to recruit patients who needed treatment
